First Grade Teacher
I attended and graduated from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, AR, in 1994.
My degree from OBU is a Bachelor of Science in Education with a specialization in Social Studies. I am certified to teach kindergarten through fourth grade in Texas.
The 2017-18 will be my 10th year to teach at Red Lick. I teach First Grade. Becoming a teacher was an easy decision. I am the daughter and granddaughter of teachers. Many of my aunts teach, also. My mom is probably my biggest influence. She enjoyed her career and her enthusiasm and dedication to teaching is a wonderful motivation to me.
Fresh out of college, I began my teaching career in Nashville, AR. We moved to Texarkana, and I taught 6th grade math in Texarkana, AR, a few years. After having our first baby, we decided to see how long we could make it on just my husband's salary. Amazingly, we made it 10 years while I stayed home to be mommy to our young family. During this time, we moved to Red Lick where we fell in love with the school. When my youngest started kindergarten, I went back to work--teaching at Red Lick. Teaching here is one of the biggest blessings of my life. Our precious students come ready to learn each day, and my fellow teaching staff is like family. We are truly a unique and special school district!
My husband is Todd Wallace, and we have been married 22 years. He is Director of Therapy at HealthSouth Rehab. We have three daughters and all attended school at Red Lick. Carley is in her sophomore year of college. She enjoys running and playing the guitar. Ashley is a senior at Texas High. She participates in the HighStepper drill team, STUCO, Yearbook, and our church youth group. Malley is a freshman at Texas High. She is a freshman cheerleader and involved in STUCO and our youth group. They all keep our life full and busy. When it seems too much, I remind myself they will all be gone from home soon and to enjoy them each day!
It seems I used to have hobbies a long time ago, but now my main "hobby" is keeping up with my family and staying fresh with teaching ideas. I enjoy traveling, reading, redoing furniture, and relaxing when there's time. Our family attends church at Beech Street First Baptist. It is a very important part of who I am and what I believe.
